Backgammon is one of the oldest known board games, played between two players on a board with 24 narrow triangles called points. Each player has 15 checkers (pieces) that move in opposite directions around the board according to dice rolls.
Roll two dice at the start of each turn. Move your checkers forward by the number shown on each die — you can move one checker twice or two checkers once each. If you roll doubles, you get four moves instead of two. You can only land on points that are open, occupied by your own checkers, or occupied by a single opponent checker (a blot).
Landing on a blot sends the opponent's checker to the bar. A checker on the bar must re-enter the board before any other moves can be made. Once all 15 of your checkers are in your home board (the last six points), you can begin bearing off — removing checkers from the board entirely.
The first player to bear off all 15 checkers wins. In this free online version, you play against an AI opponent. Click to select a checker, then click the destination point. Double-click a checker in your home board to bear it off.
